General Board Meeting called to order by Chairman Mr. Meyer at 3:42 p.m. Present were Directors Mr. Meyer, Mr. Schloss and Mr. Bettag, Chief Svetanics and Ms. Vincent. There were no citizens of the District present.
Mr. Meyer added 7.23 to the agenda as State Auditor’s Certification Letter.

Motion by Mr. Bettag to accept the minutes of the general sessions of September 10, 2010, September 14, 2010, September 21, 2010, September 28, 2010 and September 30, 2010 as presented, 2nd by Mr. Schloss, roll call vote, Mr. Meyer aye, Mr. Schloss aye, Mr. Bettag aye.
Mr. Bettag gave the treasurer’s report for the month ending September 30, 2010. Mr. Bettag reported that revenue collected through the lockbox in September was $41,602, which is well over budget for the month.
Total revenues collected are over budget for the ninth month of the year due to a large amount of delinquent taxes collected these last few months and other income such as building permits. Total revenue collected year-to-date for September is $2,551,768, being $617,551 over budget, and $89,316 more than last year at this time.
Mr. Bettag stated that actual expenditures at the end of September stand at $2,310,794, or at 78.4% of the budget for 2010, mostly because of the added expense of the new ambulance and pick-up truck.

Chief Svetanics reported that we are going to have to replace one of the air-conditioners after having a repairman inspect them. It is one of the original ones that we had not yet replaced.

Chief Svetanics also reported that since all the underground tank removal is finally completed, we had the parking lots sealed and striped for the open house.
Chief Svetanics stated that he received a nice thank-you letter from Mehlville Firefighters Local 1889 for the speech he gave at the Benefit Car Show and Bar-B-Que honoring Marine Corporal Todd Nicely on Saturday September 25 at Faith Lutheran Church on Telegraph Road in Oakville. Chief Svetanics brought a fire truck to the benefit and presented a fire helmet to Corporal Nicely.
Chief Svetanics reported that the District’s 8th Open House held on October 9, was a great success. There was estimation that there were 600 attendees this year. We gave 289 free flu shots and the Red Cross Blood Drive collected a record 28 productive units this year.
Many thanks to our contributors who helped to make this the best open house yet: We served 500 hot dogs donated by Kenrick’s and VFW Post #4223. Dierberg’s donated the hot dog buns. We also served 21 gallons of fireman-made chili. We had dozens of donuts donated by The Donut Stop. We also purchased 250 Gus’pretzels, 800 Dad’s Old Fashioned Cookies and 96 Ted Drewes’ Ice Cream with some of the contributions received. Ace Hardware provided 5 cases of bottled water and the Box 8 Club donated more water and soda, besides serving all the food.
Chief Svetanics and the Board also would like to thank a few new items we had this year: Cotton Candy provided by Montgomery Bank and Sno-Cones provided by Greg Rhomberg of Nu-Way Concrete. They were both a great addition to the open house and everyone appreciated the hard work in producing these treats.
We had a face painter/balloon artist who had a line waiting from the moment she set up shop until it was time for her to leave. The kids enjoyed this booth immensely. We also had St. Louis County Police taking fingerprints for I.D.’s of your child. Lemay Chamber of Commerce had a booth, as well as Feed My People, who were collecting cans of food for the needy.
We fitted and gave away 106 bicycle helmets courtesy of St. Louis County Health Department.
There were a few new attractions here in Lemay for the open house: A jet fighter was a huge draw which was paid for by the Greater St. Louis Public Affairs Alliance, the Safe House loaned from Rock Community Fire manned by Public Information Officer Ron Harder. There were some motorcycles from Road Riders for Jesus, as well as personal collections of antique

fire apparatus from Greg Rhomberg, Ron Herman and the St. Louis Metropolitan Fire Department.
We had a special treat from x-firefighter Charlie Block who provided live entertainment.

We would be remiss not to mention a special thanks to Ray’s Jewelers and Hancock High School for displaying our open house message on their electronic message boards, and the many volunteers who worked so hard to serve so many.
The Board of Directors would like to thank Chief Svetanics, Ms. Vincent, Local #2677 members and all the volunteers for the excellent job done in preparing for and working the open house, and a special thanks to all who attended that day.
Monthly reports presented on training by each crew member, maintenance report, fire incident report and summary, ambulance statistics, ambulance monthly lockbox report and MediClaims report, public relations report, community services report, wage report, Box 8 Club Canteen Support Group thank you letter for the District’s donation of the old ambulance. Also was a letter from the State Auditor’s Office announcing that our tax rates were in compliance with the State guidelines.
Next general meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at 3:30 p.m. Next general meeting for bill discussion will be on Thursday, November 18, 2010, at 8:00 a.m. There is also a closed meeting scheduled for Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at 8:00 a.m. pursuant to RSMo. §610.021(9) to begin M.O.U. discussions.
