            General Board Meeting called to order at 4:00 p.m. by Chairman Mr. Bettag.  Present were Directors Mr. Bettag, Mr. Schloss and Mr. Meyer, Chief Svetanics and Ms. Vincent.  Also present were Captain Bertelsmeier and Pvt. Lewellen.  There was one citizen present, Mr. Tom Coll.  Mr. Schnieders, the District Accountant, joined the meeting at 4:06 p.m. 

 

            Motion by Mr. Schloss to accept the agenda as presented with the addition of item 4.12 - Deputy Chief’s Contract, 2nd by Mr. Meyer, roll call vote Mr. Bettag aye, Mr. Schloss aye, Mr. Meyer aye. 

 

Chief Svetanics reported on the 3 alarm fire at Kingston and Telegraph.  Chief Svetanics stated that we had a total of 15 fire trucks thanks to mutual aid working at the scene.  There were no injuries.  The Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms are investigating the fire.

 

Chief Svetanics stated that the American Legion Post will be here on Friday, December 23, 2011 to present a firefighter and paramedic with an award for service and a $50.00 gift card.  The two receiving the awards are Steve Frierdich, who has been with the District for 22 years, and Lt. Michalski, our Medical Officer, who has been here for 15 years. 

 

Chief Svetanics reported that we were notified that we will be recipients of Missouri-American Water Company’s grant of $1,200 to purchase new AED’s.  The District is in need of three AED’s, one for rescue truck 1604, one for the Chief’s car and one to have here at the District office.

 

Chief Svetanics reported that we are ready for the three new members to start work on January 1, 2012.  This means that we will have 8-men crews, with the newly appointed Deputy Chiefs’, Captains’ and Lieutenants’ promotions.

Chief Svetanics stated that we are to receive Congressional recognition for the District’s 100th Year Anniversary at a special promotional ceremony to be held on Friday, December 30, 2011, at 6:00 p.m.  Chief Dennis Jenkerson of the St. Louis Fire Department will make the

presentation to promote the new Deputy Chiefs, Dan Bertelsmeier, Steve Christeson and Brian Heidbreder, and promote Norm Glover and Larry Lewellen to Captain, and Chris Taylor, Jamie Schwenk and Johnny Lewellen to Lieutenant.

 

Mr. Schnieders presented the 2012 Budget with the suggested corrections such as $50,000 for maintenance since we need extensive roof repairs, and $27, 000 for new protective gear.  Mr. Schnieders stated that we still might have to pay back $633,000 of the casino money from 2010 protested taxes.  We received the withheld protested amount, but are still waiting for a final determination.  We have now heard that we will have to wait for final determination from St. Louis County until the end of 2012 for 2010 protested taxes.

 

Motion by Mr. Schloss to accept the Budget for 2012 as presented, 2nd by Mr. Meyer, roll call vote, Mr. Bettag aye, Mr. Schloss aye, Mr. Meyer aye.

 

Motion by Mr. Schloss to approve the Contract to Promote Dan Bertelsmeier, Brian Heidbreder and Steve Christeson to Deputy Chiefs as presented, 2nd by Mr. Meyer, roll call vote, Mr. Bettag aye, Mr. Schloss aye, Mr. Meyer aye.
